Rivier University Spoil Senior Day Sweeping Chargers

NEW LONDON, N.H.  – The Chargers struggled on their home field again on Saturday falling to the Raiders in both games.

Game One: (L, 14-5)
  • After a scoreless first inning the Raiders bats woke up in a big way putting up a six spot in the second inning. The Chargers tried to battle back getting two runs back in the bottom of the inning as first year Brady Holmes (West Yarmouth, Mass.) singled into left center to score junior Ben Brennan (Marblehead, Mass.) and sophomore Jack Matarese (Ashland, Mass.).
  • The game stayed put until the sixth inning where four more runs by the visitors broke the game open. Rivier continued in the seventh with four more runs to push the lead to 14-2. First year Jesse MacGlashing (Pittsfield, N.H.) got two runs back with a deep double to right center. Junior Jake Choiniere (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) added another run singling home MacGlashing to end the scoring at 14-5.
  • Sophomore Zach Rogers (Mashpee, Mass.) picked up the loss tossing five innings allowing 10 runs (eight earned), with two strikeouts and two walks. Senior Kaelen Close (Beverly, Mass.) followed with one inning of work followed by an inning by first year Josh Finkle (Littleton, N.H.).
Game Two: (L, 2-0)
  • First year Jack Mullen (Norfolk, Mass.) dazzled in game two for Colby-Sawyer throwing five-and-two-thirds innings without allowing a hit, before a single and double by the Raiders saw two runs come across the board. Mullen finished with the loss finishing off the sixth inning with his nineth strikeout on the day.  First year Erik Rohs (Lovettsville, Va.) closed things out with a scoreless seventh inning.
  • The Chargers only had two hits in the second game of the double-header with both hits coming in the bottom of the fourth as the Chargers had two runners get thrown out at the plate by Johnny Boudreau.
