NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team got back to its winning ways on Wednesday night defeating the New England College Pilgrims by a 15-6 final.
Rapid Recap:
- The Chargers jumped ahead 2-0 as junior Hannah Marquis (Weare, N.H.) and first year Heather Hanson (Marston Mills, Mass.) each found the back of the net. The Pilgrims responded with three-straight goals to take a 3-2 lead. Junior Madison Gaskell (Pembroke, N.H.) ended the Pilgrims only lead scoring back-to-back scores putting the Chargers back in front to end the scoring of the first quarter.
- The defense took over in the second quarter as Colby-Sawyer would not allow a goal. First year Sophia Kuhlthau (Cheshire, Conn.) and Marquis both got goals to extend the Charger lead to 6-3 into the break.
- The Pilgrims tried to get back into the game netting their fourth goal to open the second half, but a 4-0 run by the home team gave the Chargers some much needed insurance. Hanson dominated the stretch scoring three of the four goals while also assisting the other to junior Sydney Stevens (Laconia, N.H.). Two more goals by New England College and the lead was down to 10-6, but another two goal spurt kept the lead at six.
- The Chargers shut down the Pilgrims in the fourth quarter not allowing a goal for the second period of the day. Hanson, Kuhlthau and senior Caroline Tompkins eached added a score as the Chargers finished off the Pilgrims 15-6.
Notes & Notables:
- Hanson led the attack for Colby-Sawyer with five goals, one assist and five draw controls. Marquis followed netting her sixth hat-trick of the year with three goals and four ground balls. Kuhlthau and Gaskell each added a pair of goals.
- On the defensive side sophomore Lauryn Sargent (Brattleboro, Vt.) led the way with three ground balls and a caused turnover.
- First year AJ Paton (Exeter, N.H.) got back in the win column with five saves in the win.

The Chargers head back on the road on Saturday to face off with Anna Maria College with a 12:00 pm start time.
