Chargers Rout Falcons 17-7 in 8th Straight Victory

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team extended their program record start on Saturday defeating Albertus Magnus College by a 17-7 final. 

Rapid Recap: 
  • Junior Sydney Stevens (Laconia, N.H.) started off the scoring putting home her 23rd of the season. The Falcons countered with back-to-back scores to take their only lead of the game. The Chargers countered quickly as first year Sophia Kuhlthau (Cheshire, Conn.) netted a free position goal followed by another goal by first year Heather Hanson (Marston Mills, Mass.) picked a corner and led 3-2 heading into the second.
  • The Chargers continued their success in the second quarter outscoring the Falcons 7-1 to push the lead to 10-3 heading into the half. Sophomore Olivia Romo (Marlboro, Vt.) led the scoring with a pair of goals while Stevens, Hanson, senior Caroline Tompkins (Marblehead, Mass.), junior Hannah Marquis (Weare, N.H.) and sophomore Ella Lyford (Orange, Vt.) eached added a score.
  • The Chargers' surge continued in the third with four-straight goals highlighted by a pair of  assists and a goal by Stevens, while Hanson, Lyford and junior Madison Gaskell (Pembroke, N.H.) each added a goal of their own. 
  • First year Olivia Witter (North Adams, Mass.) was the highlight in the fourth quarter scoring collegiate goal number one as the Chargers continued to roll winning the contest 17-7.
Player Spotlight:

"We were able to use teamwork to work together as one unit", said first year Sophia Kuhlthau (Cheshire, Conn.). "It felt good to take our time and utilize each other's assets. Our goal was to have fun today and we accomplished it by playing our game."

Notes & Notables:
  • Kuhlthau led the Chargers with an amazing defensive effort including five caused turnovers, four ground balls and a pair of goals. Stevens led the offense with three goals and two assists, while Hanson and Romo each added a hat-trick.
  • First year AJ Paton (Exeter, N.H.) picked up win number eight in net, while sophomore Simone Long (Wales, Maine) got her first game action of the season with a save in the fourth quarter.
Up next:
The Chargers host Simmons University on Sunday at 3:00 pm in a battle between the #2 and #3 teams in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).
