Chargers Lose First Game of 2022 in 11-2 Loss to Simmons University

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team dropped its first contest on the 2022 season falling to Simmons University by a 11-2 final. 

Rapid Recap: 
  • The Sharks jumped ahead early taking a 3-0 advantage after one quarter with two goals coming from Abby Stoller. The Chargers were out shot in the quarter by a 11-2 margin with first year AJ Paton (Exeter, N.H.) stopping a pair of big shots to keep the lead at just three. 
  • Simmons continued the success in the second quarter tacking on three more goals including a pair of free position scores to double the lead heading into the break.
  • The defense of the Sharks was dominant as the lead grew to 9-0 in the third quarter before a beautiful pass from sophomore Ella Lyford (Orange, Vt.) beat the zone and found the stick of junior Hannah Marquis (Weare, N.H.), who found the back of the net for the goal to end the scoring in the third quarter.
  • The Sharks responded with two more scores giving the Chargers a 10 goal deficit before Marquis finished a free position to finish the scoring at 11-2. 
Notes & Notables:
  • The loss ends the best start in program history and moves the Chargers back to the #3 seed in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) playoffs. 
  • Paton stopped a career-best 16 shots in her first loss of her collegiate career. 
  • Marquis scored a pair of goals, while Lyford added a lone assist. 
  • On the defensive side first year Hannah Himes (Williston, Vt.) had five ground balls.
