Chargers Fall to Johnson & Wales 18-7

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team lost its third-straight game on Saturday falling to the Johnson & Wales Wildcats by a 18-7 final.

Rapid Recap: 
  • The Wildcats started the game off fast winning the draw and scoring in the first 11 seconds. The Wildcats tacked on another goal before first year Sophia Kuhlthau (Cheshire, Conn.) found the back of the net to cut the lead to a single score. Sophomore Olivia Romo (Marlboro, Vt.) tied the game with 7:36 left in the first on her 18th goal of the year. Johnson & Wales responded by netting two more goals at the end of the first to take a 4-2 lead.
  • Four more goals in the first three minutes of the second quarter pushed the home team lead to six before junior Sydney Stevens (Laconia, N.H.) finished home a pass from first year Heather Hanson (Marston Mills, Mass.) to end the first half scoring. 
  • Junior Madison Gaskell (Pembroke, N.H.) opened the scoring finishing home a free position. The Wildcats responded with four-straight scores to take a 12-4 lead. Hanson stopped the run with a free position strike, but the Wildcats closed the third quarter with three more goals to lead by 10 heading into the fourth.
  • Junior Hannah Marquis (Weare, N.H.) added two goals in the fourth quarter, but it wasn't enough as the Chargers fell by a 18-7 margin.
Notes & Notables:
  • Defensively the Chargers were led again by first year Hannah Himes (Williston, Vt.) who caused a career-high four turnovers, while picking up three ground balls and getting her first collegiate assist. 
  • Marquis led the scoring with two goals, while Romo and Hanson each added a goal and an assist.
  • Paton stopped six shots in the loss.

The Chargers return to New London for a matchup with inner-state rival New England College on April 20th at 4:00 PM.
