Chargers Skid Continues in Pair of Losses to Saint Joseph's College of Maine

NEW LONDON, N.H.  – The Colby-Sawyer baseball team dropped its sixth-straight falling to the Saint Joseph's College of Maine Monks by a 9-4 and 7-1 finals.

Game One: (9-4)
  • The Monks jumped on the board quickly taking a 3-0 lead in the top half of the second. The Chargers got on the board in the second inning after first year Bailey Camacho (Attleboro, Mass.) grounded out to the second baseman allowing first year Ben Mensch (Tampa, Fla.) to come home safely. Mensch got on after being hit by a pitch and was moved over following a single by junior Ben Brennan (Marblehead, Mass.) and a sacrifice bunt by junior Cooper O'Brien (Vergennes, Vt.).
  • The Monks bats continued to hit on all cylinders tallying four more runs in the third inning before adding a pair more in the fifth.
  • The Chargers got back on the board late as O'Brien singled home junior Jake Choiniere (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) after Choiniere doubled to deep center field. Two more runs came across the plate in the bottom half of the seventh after junior Ian Turpel (Cohasset, Mass.) doubled home junior Tommy Sasso (Grafton, Mass.) and Choiniere hit a sacrifice fly to center to bring in Turpel. The Chargers could not overcome the early deficit and fell by a 9-4 margin.
  • Sophomore Zach Rogers (Mashpee, Mass.) picked up the loss tossing four innings allowing eight hits, seven runs (two earned) and five strikeouts. First year Josh Finkle came in relief throwing three innings allowing four hits, two runs and a pair of punch outs.

Game Two: (7-1)
  • The scoring started in the top half of the second inning as the Monks scored a pair of runs. The lead would double in the third as the Monks put two more across home plate to lead 4-0. The Chargers got on the board as Sasso hit a sacrifice fly to score senior Jackson Parmentier (Higganum, Conn.) who got on via a base hit to left field.
  • The Monks added two more runs in the fourth before taking another run in the fifth inning. The Chargers bats went quiet for the rest of the game as the Monks swept the day with the 7-1 victory.
  • First year Jack Mullen (Norfolk, Mass.) was tabbed with the loss after hurling three and a third innings allowing six runs with five strikeouts and a pair of walks. First year Erik Rohs (Lovettsville, Va.) was next throwing two and two-thirds innings allowing one run on one hit while picking up three strikeouts. Parmentier finished off the game throwing a lone shutout inning.
