Chargers Smoke Lesley University Lynx in Home Victory, 3-0

NEW LONDON, NH – The Colby-Sawyer Chargers earn their first home victory and second win of the season, sweeping the Lesley University Lynx in three sets on Friday night in the Hogan Sports Center. 

Rapid Recap:  
  • The Chargers came out swinging early in the first set, running a seven-point lead over the Lynx and earning six kills to start the night. Then, with the scoreboard showing 7-1, the men went on the sets highest run of eight which included five team kills and two serving aces from junior Phu Ngo (Everett, Mass.). The Chargers took the first set 25-7. 
  • The second set comprised of 10 team kills with six evenly shared by seniors Eric Miller (La Grange, Ill.) and Orlando Plagata (Los Angeles, Calif.). Leading the Lynx 17-8, the first-year Lucas Lizotte (Hampstead, N.H.) went on a six-point run to extend the Charger lead to 15 before taking the second set 25-10, Chargers. 
  • Two Miller kills with helpers from AJ Gnieski (Needham, Mass.) and a serving ace by first-year Alfredo Hidalgo (Lawrence, Mass.) opened the third set with a 3-0 score. Now, leading the Lynx 17-3, the team went on their longest run of the set to score the remaining eight points of the match to take set three with an impressive final set score of 25-4.  
Notes & Notables: 
  • The Chargers overpowered the Lynx in hitting percentages, recording a season high of .517% while also providing season highs of 35 kills with 33 assists within three sets. 
  • Ngo debuted in his first game of the season recording three serving aces. First-year Isaac Davies led the team with seven. In terms of serving aces, the team recorded another season high of 22. 
  • Gnieski led the Chargers with 18 helpers as Lizotte followed behind with 14. 
 
Player Spotlight: 

When asked his thoughts on the game, senior Eric Miller said, "it felt great to get our first home victory of the season". "Now it's time to get back to work and prepare for next week's games" he continued.

The Colby-Sawyer Chargers take a week off from competition as they prepare to host Northern Vermont Univiserty next Friday, March 11th at home. The match is set to start at 7pm.
