Chargers Win Seventh-Straight in 16-9 Victory Over Regis College

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team extended their program record start on Wednesday defeating the Regis College Pride by a 16-9 final.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers jumped ahead early as as first year Sophia Kuhlthau (Cheshire, Conn.) netted back-to-back scores to quickly give the Chargers a 2-0 lead. First year Heather Hanson (Marston Mills, Mass.) followed with her 25th score of the year and it looked like the rout was on. The Pride stopped the run momentarily scoring their first goal before senior Caroline Tompkins (Marblehead, Mass.) put home goal number 16 quickly followed by another by Hanson and it was all Chargers up 5-1. The Pride battled back late scoring two more goals in the final minute to get the lead within a pair of goals to end the first.
  • Kuhlthau continued the early success netting the hat-trick giving Colby-Sawyer a three goal cushion, but Regis responded two minutes later to keep the game close. Junior Hannah Marquis (Weare, N.H.) joined the scoring next picking up her 15th of the season, which kick started another Hanson goal to push the lead to 8-4. Both teams traded a goal late in the second to keep the difference at four with junior Sydney Stevens (Laconia, N.H.) putting home a goal from sophomore Olivia Romo (Marlboro, Vt.) with 27 seconds left in the half.
  • The Romo - Stevens connection met again to start the second half with Romo putting home her seventh goal of the year and giving the Chargers a five goal advantage. Marquis followed it up with her second on the day with a snipe past the Pride goalie. Marquis scored once more at the end of the third with the Chargers holding a comfortable 12-6 lead heading into the final frame.
  • The Pride continued to try and shorten the Charger lead in the fourth , but every time Regis scored it was answered with a Colby-Sawyer goal. Stevens led the fourth with a pair of scores, while Tompkins and Romo each added a lone goal as the Chargers picked up win number seven.
