Chargers Win Fifth Straight in 16-7 Victory Over Elms College

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team continues the best start in program history with a big 16-7 win over Elms College. The Chargers are now 5-0 and 3-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).

Rapid Recap:
  • The Blazers started off the scoring netting the first score in just under two minutes of game action. First year Heather Hanson (Marston Mills, Mass.) countered with her first of the day to even the score, but Elms took the lead once again as Taylor Borla earned her eighth goal of the season. The scoring stopped momentarily until a ground ball and clear by first year Hannah Himes (Williston, Vt.) sparked a late goal by junior Hannah Marquis (Weare, N.H.) to even the game at 2-2 heading into the second quarter.
  • The Chargers would dominate in the second quarter for the second-straight day outscoring the Blazers 8-0 led by five more goals by Hanson. Senior Caroline Tompkins (Marblehead, Mass.) added a goal and an assist, while junior Sydney Stevens (Laconia, N.H.) and first year Sophia Kuhlthau (Cheshire, Conn.) each added their first goal of the day as Colby-Sawyer led 10-2 into the break.
  • The Chargers continued the success in the third with four-straight goals as Kuhlthau, sophomore Olivia Romo (Marlboro, Vt.), sophomore Ella Lyford (Orange, Vt.) and Marquis each put home a goal to end an outstanding 13-0 run stretching three periods. Elms closed off the run scoring with 2:38 on the clock to cut the lead to 14-3 heading into the final frame.
  • The Blazers continued the run in the fourth scoring the next three scores and inching towards a comeback now just trailing 14-6. Kuhlthau responded with another goal splitting the defender and beating the keeper for her second collegiate hat-trick. Elms responded with another goal, but that was halted again as Tompkins found a beautiful pass from Stevens to put the Blazers away 16-7.
