Chargers Take Set Two From Eastern Nazarene in Wednesday Night's Defeat

QUINCY, MASS. – The Colby-Sawyer Chargers fall to the Eastern Nazarene Lions in their second faceoff of the 2021-22 season, avoiding the Lions sweep with a set win in the second for the Chargers.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers opened the night with a quick 2-0 lead with an instant unassisted kill from first-year Christopher Huynh (Methuen, Mass.) and a serving ace from senior AJ Gnieski (Needham, Mass.) to start the first set. The men held the lead until a successful attack and two succeeding serving aces knotted the score at eight. The Lions took the first set 25-18.
  • The second set began with an opposing kill which was quickly answered by graduate student Andrew Kovacs (Wellesley, Mass.) who nailed one down to even the score. From there, the Chargers pounced on the Lions earning a two-point lead early in the set. With the scoreboard showing 6-5, Chargers, the men went on a four-point run consisting of back to back kills from seniors Orlando Plagata (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Eric Miller (La Grange, Ill.) to extend their lead to five. The Chargers took set two 25-21 to tie the match and force a fourth set.
  • In the third, Colby-Sawyer earned a total of nine kills to the opposing 13, dropping the set 25-18. Despite earning the first two points of the set, the Chargers defense struggled as the Lions went on a six-point run to make the difference halfway through, leaving the Chargers trailing for the remainder of the game.
