NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team faced off with mother nature on Saturday, playing through fog, rain, hail and a one hour thunder delay, however the Chargers came prepared defeating the Dean College Bulldogs by a 17-6 final after only three quarters of play.
Rapid Recap:
- The Bulldogs struck first, using a free position advantage to go up 1-0. First year Sophia Kuhlthau (Cheshire, Conn.) answered quickly knotting up the game at 1-1 with a fancy finish. Dean countered again with another free position goal and now lead the undefeated Chargers 2-1. Following a yellow card for the Bulldogs, senior Caroline Tompkins (Marblehead, Mass.) found junior Sydney Stevens (Laconia, N.H.) to finish home her first goal of the day and tied the game up yet again. Stevens continued to dominate scoring the next two scores in a two minute span and gave the Chargers a quick 4-2 advantage. Junior Hannah Marquis (Weare, N.H.) joined the scoring netting her ninth of the season, before Stevens put home her fourth in the first quarter. After the Bulldogs scored their third goal of the day first year Heather Hanson (Marston Mills, Mass.) responded quickly scoring her first of the day and giving the Chargers a 7-3 lead heading into the second quarter.
- The second quarter ended up being the best quarter of the season for the Chargers outscoring the Bulldogs 8-0, cruising the lead to 15-3 heading into the third quarter. Hanson and Marquis each led the offense with two goals and an assist each in the period, while Stevens added another score and a pair of helpers. Sophomore Ella Lyford (Orange, Vt.) added two more scores, while Tompkins finished the scoring with her 10th goal of the season. At the 5:38 mark of the second quarter, play was halted due to a weather delay, which ended up lasting for just about one hour. When play resumed it was determined that the game would conclude after just three periods.
- Marquis opened up the third quarter off another assist from Stevens, before returning the favor for Stevens' career-high sixth goal of the day to push the lead to 17-3. Dean would respond late in the third quarter with three-straight goals from their offense, before the clock struck 0:00.

Notes & Notables:
- Stevens continues to shine scoring wise registering a career-high six goals, which now marks the third-straight game to score a new career-high. Stevens added another career-high with four assists. Marquis followed with a career-high six point effort including four goals, a pair of assists and three ground balls. Hanson was next with three more goals and an assist, while also collecting a career-high eight ground balls.
- Sophomore Anna McCuin (Brandon, Vt.) led the defensive effort with a caused turnover and a pair of ground balls, while sophomore Lauryn Sargent (Brattleboro, Vt.) added another caused turnover.
- First year AJ Paton (Exeter, N.H.) continues to stay undefeated in net with four saves in the win.
- Maire Brown led the Bulldogs with three goals, an assist and a caused turnover in the loss.
