NASHUA, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team dropped its fourth-straight on Wednesday falling to the Raiders by a 79-68 final.
Rapid Recap:
- The Chargers and Raiders went back and forth with neither team jumping ahead early. Junior Sydney Stevens (Laconia, N.H.) put Colby-Sawyer in front, taking a pass from first year Megan Molettieri (Pelham, N.H.) and finishing the and-one layup.
- Rivier countered with a 10-2 run to give the home team a 18-12 advantage stopped by a Stevens layup. First year Gabby Lucertini (Branford, Conn.) cut the deficit to three dropping in a triple to end the first quarter.
- In the second Rivier continued to lead until a 11-0 run spotlighted by three shots from deep with a pair coming from junior Emily Parent (Oakland, Maine) and one coming from first year Courtney Brewster (Castleton, Vt.). A 15-2 closing run by the home team got the crowd going giving the Raiders a 43-35 lead heading into the break.
- The third quarter belonged to the Chargers outscoring the Raiders by a 22-15 margin, trimming the lead to a single point headed into the fourth. First year Natalie Panagrosso (Wallingford, Conn.) stole the show in the third scoring seven points in the quarter on a perfect 3-3 from the field.
- In the fourth quarter the Raiders used an early 5-0 run to get the lead back to six points, stopped by a Stevens layup. Rivier continued to answer the Chargers and would knock down the clutch free throws to hold on for the win.
Notes & Notables:
- First year Marissa Holt (Alfred, Maine) had a great all-around game for Colby-Sawyer scoring 12 points (5-15 FG, 0-3 3-PT, 2-2 FT), while grabbing a career-high 13 rebounds and dishing five assists. Stevens also had a big game tallying a career-high 12 points (5-7 FG, 2-4 FT) while collecting another seven rebounds.
- Lucertini registered 11 points (3-10 FG, 3-5 3-PT, 2-2 FT), six rebounds and four assists, while Brewster netted 11 points (5-8 FG, 1-2 3-PT) and eight rebounds. Panagroso added a career-high nine points (4-4 FG, 1-1 FT) with a pair of rebounds in 16 minutes of game action.
- Lyric Grumblatt led the Raiders again with 31 points, seven rebounds and five steals.
- The Chargers continue to hold the 10th seed in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) standings.
