Holt Records Second Consecutive Double-Double in Fall to Falcons

NEW LONDON, N.H.– After an 11-point deficit to the Rivier Raiders, the Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team hosted the Falcons of Albertus Magnus on Saturday afternoon in the Dan and Kathleen Hogan Sports center.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Chargers took a quick lead with a made bucket in their first possession from junior Emily Parent (Oakland, Maine) to get ahead of the Falcons 3-0. A Falcons three knotted the score until first-year Megan Molettieri (Pelham, N.H.) answered back with a made three of her own. Following a scoreless three minutes, first-year Courtney Brewster (Castleton, Vt.) drew two fouls in a two-minute span to put herself on the line making two of her four free throws. A three pointer gave the Flacons a one-point advantage which was taken back by a jumper from first-year Marissa Holt (Alfred, Maine). With seven seconds on the clock, the Falcons had time for one more layup to head into the second quarter with an 11-10 lead over the Chargers.
  • A good three-pointer by Parent with help from junior Sydney Stevens (Laconia, N.H.) opened up the second quarter for the Chargers. A jumper from the paint by Holt advanced the Chargers with a four-point lead. The Falcons responded with a six-point run in less than a minute to place the Chargers down by five. The next minute of the game was the "Holt Takeover" as she collected a made jumper and drew a foul which would end in two made free throws to put the Chargers trailing by one. Albertus Magnus's offense put eight more points up to end the first half with a 28-19 lead over the Chargers.
  • First-years Molettieri and Holt were joined by junior Lia Raynowska on the scoring sheet for the third quarter with Holt collecting four points, Molettieri earning two, and Raynowska with a made free throw. Running low on energy, the Chargers trailed the Falcons 50-26 going into the final quarter of the contest.
  • Two minutes after the whistle, Stevens drew a foul to go one for two on her free throws. Later in the game, first-year Natalie Panagrosso (Wallingford, Conn.) came up with a layup to earn her team two more points. Following a Falcon turnover, Raynowska was accredited the steal with a fast break layup to set the Chargers at 31. Despite the thirty-point advantage, the Chargers finished the game off with another two coming from both Holt and Raynowska to drop the game 63-35.
Notes & Notables:
  • Holt came away with a double-double with 14 total points (6-17 FG, 0-6 3-PT, 2-6 FT) and 10 rebounds, earning herself the leading rebounder title for the Chargers.
