BOSTON, Mass. – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest to Emmanuel College on Wednesday falling by a 89-69 margin.
Rapid Recap:
- The Saints' offense clicked right away starting off the game on a 13-2 run. The Chargers countered with a quick 6-2 run highlighted by four points from senior Terrence Harvey Jr. (Atlanta, Ga.). Emmanuel continued to connect offensively jumping the lead to 20-8, stopped by a three-pointer by junior Kadir Arca (Istanbul, Turkey). The Chargers cut the deficit to 27-19 later in the first half as first year Daniel Jordan (Coral Springs, Fla.) knocked down a triple to spark an 8-0 Colby-Sawyer run. The Saints countered with 13 straight-points to jump the lead to 21 points. Two senior Scott Lampron (Concord, N.H.) three-pointers and a layup by sophomore Kevin Cummings (Portsmouth, N.H.) cut the home lead to 42-29, but the Saints finished strong to push the lead to 18 heading into the break.
- In the second half the Saints started by stretching the lead back to 23 points but a Cummings three stopped the early run. After Emmanuel pushed the lead back to 57-33, the Chargers found life going on a 15-3 run starred by 13 points by senior Omar Boone (Colorado City, Texas). The Chargers kept rolling cutting the game to 65-54 after three straight layups by Boone, Harvey Jr. and Cummings, but a 8-2 response by the Saints kept the lead out of reach momentarily. Boone and Lampron combined for a quick 5-0 run to cut the deficit to 11 points with 4:03 remaining, but the Saints closed the game with a 12-3 run to pick up the conference win.
Notes & Notables:
- Boone led the offense with a season-high 25 points (9-18 FG, 3-8 3-FG, 4-5 FT) off the bench in 30 minutes. Omar also ripped down six rebounds, dished out three assists and blocked three shots.
- Harvey Jr. continues to his best season at Colby-Sawyer with 12 points (5-13 FG, 0-4 3-FG, 2-2 FT), four rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals. Cummings was the final double-figure scorer for the Chargers with 10 points (4-14 FG, 2-11 3-FG), five rebounds and three steals.
- Donte Pope led the Saints with 21 points (9-13 FG, 3-3 3-FG) and 10 rebounds in 32 minutes.
- The Saints doubled up the Chargers scoring inside the paint with a 48-24 margin, while Colby-Sawyer had 20 second chance points compared to 11 from Emmanuel College.
- The Saints shot an outstanding 58.1% (36-62) from the floor compared to 32.4% (24-74) from the Chargers.
