2022-23 Women’s Basketball Season Preview

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team are eager for the 2022-23 season to be underway as they look to build from the previous year.

BUILDING TOGETHER
The Chargers will look to keep building after making a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) playoff appearance during the 2021-22 season. Colby-Sawyer was bested by Elms College in the GNAC Play-In on February 22nd to end their season with a 3-12 conference record.

"My expectations are that we are competing in every game," said head coach Devon Quattrocchi. "Regardless of the score, we are going to be competitive, and we are going to be progressing over the course of the season. We have three strong senior leaders and a good group of returners, so I am excited to see how we work together this season."

THE CAPTAINS
Seniors Lia Raynowska (Brentwood, N.H.), Emily Parent (Oakland, Maine), and Sydney Stevens (Laconia, N.H.) will lead the team as captains for the 2022-23 season.

Raynowska is a sport management major who has stepped into her role as a leader for the Chargers. In her junior season, Raynowska made 20 appearances averaging 5.2 points and 4.9 rebounds. On December 3rd, Raynowska scored a career-high 18 points against Norwich University and ended the year by being named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

"My expectations heading into my senior year are high," said Raynowska. "Last year, we had a building season and struggled to get in the win column. I think this season it's time for us to beat the opponents we had close losses to and step up defensively."

Parent, a senior guard studying biology pre-med, has also been an important leader for the program. During the 2021-22 season, Parent had her best year as a Charger averaging a team best 10.8 points per game. She also ranked second in the GNAC in threes made per game after recording 58 three-pointers in her junior year.

"I think we ended last year on a good note making playoffs," said Parent. "I feel like we can pull out a lot more wins and I expect more hard-fought games this season."

Stevens grew into a starting role after seeing action in 21 games for Colby-Sawyer in her junior season. She had her best game of the season against Rivier University after making a career-high 12 points with seven rebounds.

"Last year, I think our record showed how good we can be, so this year I am excited to see the growth we have made," said Stevens.

NEW ADDITIONS
Coach Quattrocchi adds three first years to the 2022-23 roster who will look to help the Chargers in the upcoming season.

First year Elyza Mitchell (Spofford, N.H.) is a forward majoring in nursing who graduated from Keene High School. First years Liberti Lacasse (Canaan, N.H.) and Kaylee Manzella (Littleton, N.H.) will be new guard additions to the Chargers roster.
