Lucertini's 21 Points Leads Chargers to First Victory of the Season 73-62 Over Johnson & Wales University

Providence, R.I. - The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team starts 2022 with a huge Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win, defeating Johnson & Wales by a 73-62 final. This marks Chargers women's basketball head coach Devon Quattrocchi's first collegiate head coaching victory.

RAPID RECAP:
  • Colby-Sawyer started the game trailing the Wildcats by a 17-10 clip before closing the first quarter on a 14-6 run including three three-pointers from first year Megan Molettierri (Pelham, N.H.). 
  • In the second quarter junior Emily Parent (Oakland, Maine) got her offense rolling scoring nine points in the quarter and keeping the Chargers in front by a 38-33 clip heading into the break.
  • After the break the home team stormed back to even the score at 46 before Parent knocked down another triple and propelled the visitors into a 55-48 advantage.
  • In the fourth the teams went back and forth with JWU getting it down to a three point deficit with 8:04 remaining, but the Chargers closed out the game keeping the Wildcats out of reach.

STATS & FIGURES:
  • First year Gabby Lucertini (Branford, Conn.) netted a career-high with 21 points (6-10 FG, 1-2 3-PT, 8-11 FT), while also dishing six assists and grabbing six boards.
  • Molettierri also notched a career-high with 20 points (6-16 FG, 4-9 3-PT, 4-6 FT), while Parent tallied 17 points (4-9 FG, 4-5 3-PT, 5-6 FT) and four rebounds. 
  • Jennell Martin paced the Wildcats with 14 points in the losing effort.

The Chargers will host Dean College in another GNAC contest in New London on January 12th at 5:30 PM.
