Chargers Fall to Monks 85-36

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball dropped fifth-straight home contest falling to Saint Joseph's College of Maine by a 85-36 final.

Rapid Recap: 
  • The Chargers started off hot from deep as first year Megan Molettieri (Pelham, N.H.), junior Lia Raynowska (Brentwood, N.H.) and junior Emily Parent (Oakland, Maine) each hit a three to give the home team an early 9-5 advantage. 
  • The Monks countered with a 6-0 run to gain back the lead, but after a Raynowska free throw first year Courtney Brewster (Castleton, Vt.) attacked the rim and scored to give the Chargers back the lead at 12-11. A 14-0 counter run by Saint Joseph's College of Maine gave the visitors a 13 point lead heading into the second.
  • The second saw both teams trading baskets with the Monks holding control and jumping the lead to 46-23 heading into halftime. 
  • Parent started off the second half hitting a jumper, followed later by back to back finishes by junior Ameesah Cotten (Newburgh, N.Y.)  to trim the lead to 51-29. 
  • The Monks closed the third quarter on an 11-0 run to regain control and put the game out of reach.
Notes & Notables:
  • Raynowska filled the stat sheet off the bench with eight points (3-8 FG, 1-5 3-PT, 1-2 FT), five rebounds with a block and a steal. 
  • Parent registered a team-high nine points (3-9 FG, 1-6 3-PT), while Cotten totaled five points (2-5 FG, 1-2 FT), nine rebounds with six of the rebounds coming on the offensive end. 
  • Brewster added six points (3-5 FG) and four rebounds off the bench in just her second action of the season. 
  • Cassandra Stapelfeld led the Monks with 22 points and three steals.

The Chargers host Norwich University in New London at 5:30 PM in a crucial Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game.
