Boone's Double-Double Leads Chargers Over AMCATS 70-67

PAXTON, Mass. – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team pulled off another comeback win on Sunday, storming back from down 12 with under 10 minutes to play to defeat Anna Maria by a 70-67 final.

Rapid Recap: 
  • The game started off with both teams trading buckets with the AMCATS taking an early 12-7 lead before senior Deondre Smith (Garland, Texas) went on his own 5-0 run to even the game at 12-12.
  • With the game knotted at 16, the Chargers took a 5-1 advantage highlighted by an old fashioned three-point play by junior Conor Kelly (Charlestown, Mass.).
  • The home team would keep the fight close pushing the game back to even at 24-24. The remainder of the first half consisted of both teams trading buckets and the teams would head into the break with the visitors holding a 36-34 lead. The Chargers used 11 offensive boards in the first half to propel them to the lead including four offensive first half rebounds by junior Omar Boone (Colorado City, Texas) to go along with nine points.
  • The second half started off with junior Zack Caraballo (Salem, N.H.) hitting first year Dylan Santosuosso (Pelham, N.H.) in the corner for three. The AMCATS would regain momentum scoring the next 10 points and taking a 44-39 advantage.
  • Anna Maria continued the early second-half dominance jumping the lead to double-digits with 11:49 remaining in the game. 
  • The largest lead was 57-45 in favor of the AMCATS with 9:45 on the clock before the Chargers countered with an 8-0 rush starred by a highlight block by Kelly. 
  • With the lead at six, the Chargers got a huge triple by first year Kevin Cummings (Portsmouth, N.H.), followed by a tremendous drive and score by Boone to get the game to 59-58 with 5:33 remaining.
  • The next possession down the floor Cummings came in clutch again giving the Chargers the lead with another triple and following a three-point play by the AMCATS, Caraballo split the defense and finished a tough layup to put the visitors up 63-62. 
  • With 1:21 on the clock Boone beat the defender and finished plus the foul and after a pair of free throws by the junior the Chargers saw a 70-64 advantage. 
  • The AMCATS had a late three-point attempt, but it fell well short to give the Chargers a big road victory.
Player Spotlight:

"I'm proud of my team and how we battled back to win this game", said junior Omar Boone. "We definitely gotta keep this momentum up going for the rest of these games and heading into playoffs."

Notes & Notables: 
  • The Chargers snapped a four-game losing streak with the victory. Colby-Sawyer still sits in the #10 seed in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) playoff picture.
  • Boone had a big day scoring a career-high 26 points (11-19 FG, 4-4 FT) to go along with 12 rebounds.
  • Kelly tallied another solid game with nine points (4-7 FG, 1-2 FT), nine rebounds, two steals and a block.
  • Cummings added 12 points (4-15 FG. 4-14 3-PT) and a pair of rebounds.
  • Gabe Armstead led the AMCATS with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Up next: 
The Chargers return home on Thursday to host Norwich University in their second meeting of the season.
