Field Hockey Earns Victory over Plymouth State

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer College field hockey team had a total of 18 shots in its triumph over Plymouth State on Saturday to improve their overall record to 2-0. Junior Aoife Daly (Harwich, Mass.) had 11 of those shots, three found the back of the net.

The Summary
  • The Charger's defense came out strong, only allowing the Panther's one shot in the first quarter. The first goal of the game came early in the eighth minute at the hands of Daly. Plymouth responded with a goal of their own with under ten seconds to play in the first quarter.  
  • The Panthers came out hot in the second quarter, scoring in their first offensive possession of the stanza. Daly knocked in the equalizer two minutes later to even up the score at two. Senior Chrissy Coffield (North Conway, N.H.) had the assist on the Daly goal. The second quarter went on without either team giving up a goal. The teams headed into halftime square at two.
  • The third period started and less than a minute in Coffield shot and hit the post. Six minutes later Daly gave the Chargers the lead with her third goal of the afternoon. Freshman Courtney Larson (Auburn, Maine) scored the first goal of her Charger career to make the score 4-2 and give Colby-Sawyer some much-needed insurance down the stretch. Neither team scored in the four quarter. Junior Lauren Wilkinson (Lynn, Mass.) had a save late in the fourth to preserve the lead for the Chargers.

  • Today's victory marked the first time Colby-Sawyer has beaten Plymouth State in field hockey.
