Chargers Hold Off Bengals 76-73

NORTHFIELD, Vt. –  The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team used another big first half to hold off the University of Maine - Fort Kent by a 76-73 final. 

Rapid Recap: 
  • The Chargers fell behind early trailing 8-0 before storming back on a 18-2 run behind eight early points by junior Scott Lampron (Concord, N.H.).
  • Colby-Sawyer used the momentum to hold a 29-24 lead before charging for a 10-2 run and taking a 39-26 lead into the break. 
  • Junior Omar Boone (Colorado City, Texas) had a massive fast-break flush early in the second half to give the Chargers a 51-31 lead with 16:16 remaining on the clock. The Bengals showed life going on a 16-5 run to trim the deficit to nine with just over 11 minutes to go. 
  • Fort Kent continued to chip away at the lead, getting the game down to a three point game with 1:14 left on the clock. The Chargers would go to junior Conor Kelly (Charlestown, Mass.), who finished a clutch layup in the paint with 56 ticks on the clock. First year Kevin Cummings (Portsmouth, N.H.) sealed the game with a steal and then splashing home a pair of free throws to put the game out of reach. 
Coaches Corner:

"That was a tough hard fought game", said head coach Dan Kaigler. "They hit some very difficult shots on us towards the end to make it close, but we stepped up when we needed to and had some guys make some big plays down the stretch. This game showed us that we're moving in the right direction as a team."

Notes & Notables: 
  • Cummings finished with a team best 21 points (7-9 FG, 5-6 3-PT, 2-3 FT), shooting an impressive 77% from the field and 83% from behind the arc.
  • Lampron tallied a career-high 16 points (6-14 FG, 4-7 3-PT) , to go with six rebounds, four assists and four steals.
  • Emmanouil Konialis (Athens, Greece) marked a career-high as well with 12 points (4-5 FG, 1-1 3-PT, 3-4 FT), while Boone added 10 points (4-11 FG, 0-1 3-PT, 2-2 FT) and three assists. 
  • Jordan Guerrero led all scorers for the Bengals with 24 points including six triples.
  • Cummings was later selected to the Ed Hockenbury Tournament team averaging 18.5 points over the two-day tournament.
