Box Score NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Coming off a tough loss to the Cadets the night before, the Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team suffered an 81-38 deficit against the Continentals of Hamilton College to conclude their play in the Ed Hockenbury Classic hosted by Norwich University.
RAPID RECAP:
1st Quarter:
- Trailing by 19, with less than three minutes in the first quarter, first-year Gabby Lucertini (Branford, Conn.) sank a three with help from junior Lia Raynowska (Brentwood, N.H.) to put the Chargers on the board. The next Colby-Sawyer point came quickly after junior Sydney Stevens (Laconia, N.H.) drew a foul and made one of her free-throws to put the Chargers at four going into the second quarter.
2nd Quarter:
- Last night's top performer, junior Emily Parent (Oakland, Maine) continued to show off her transition abilities as she collected her first defensive rebound early in the quarter to then sink her first three soon after with an assist from teammate Jessie Gandron (Milford, N.H.). The Continentals responded to Parent with a quick layup to advance their lead to 20. Later in the period, Parent found her groove as she recorded six out of six made free throws and a three pointer in less than a two-minute run with help from first year Marissa Holt (Alfred, Me.).
3rd Quarter:
- The Chargers earned 12 total points in the third quarter of the contest with half coming from two made three-point jumpers from the hands of Parent. Holt followed behind with her four points in the quarter consisting of a three-pointer off a pass from Raynowska who collected her third assist of the day.
4th Quarter:
- With a serious advantage leading into the tail end of the game, the Continentals continued to contest the Colby-Sawyer defense as they collected 19 more points to reach 81 leaving the Chargers at 38.
STATS & FIGURES:
- Parent had quite a weekend, breaking her career high points of 18 -set the night before- with 21 total points against the Continentals. She finished the weekend with 39 total points, 11-23 on three pointers with a 1.000% shooting average from the free throw line for the third time this season.
- Holt and Stevens tied for the second highest point holders for the day with four. Holt boxed her opponents out under the hoop to earn six total rebounds with five coming from the defensive side. Stevens finished 4-6 on free throws with two rebounds and a helper in the third for her first assist on the season.
- Raynowska continued her weekend stride leading the Chargers in assist with three against the Continentals and a total of six over the two-day span. Resilient defense was displayed by the junior with three strong blocks and three rebounds to finish the day.
