Chargers Lose Tight Battle with Blazers 68-60

NEW LONDON, N.H.  - The Colby Sawyer women's basketball team fell in a close battle with Elm College by a 68-60 final. 

RAPID RECAP:
  • The Blazers had a strong first quarter jumping ahead by a 13-2 margin. Junior Emily Parent (Oakland, Maine) hit a buzzer-beating three to trim the deficit to 10 heading into the second quarter. 
  • The game stayed close in the second as Parent knocked down a two more triples including one with 33 seconds left to make it a 33-26 game heading into the break. 
  • In the third quarter a 12-4 run sparked by first year Marissa Holt (Alfred, Maine) gave the Chargers their first lead at 39-37. The teams continued to battle with the Blazers taking a 51-50 lead into the final frame.
  • Elms contained the Colby-Sawyer attack in the last quarter holding onto the lead and securing the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory. 

STATS & FIGURES:
  • First year Gabby Lucertini (Branford, Conn.) led the Chargers attack with 16 points (5-13 FG, 1-4 3-PT, 5-6 FT), four steals and a pair of assists. 
  • Parent registered 11 points (4-8 FG, 3-5 3-PT) with three assists. Holt added 10 points (4-15 FG, 2-6 3-PT, 0-2 FT), six rebounds and five helpers. 
  • First year Megan Molettierri (Pelham, N.H.) was a spark off the bench with 11 points (4-6 FG, 3-5 3-PT) and three rebounds. 
  • McKenzie Huria paced the Blazers with 30 points, four rebounds and three assists.

The Chargers head back on the road on  December 3rd in the Ed Hockenbury Classic at Norwich University.
