Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Downed by Rams, 71-38

BOSTON, MASS. -  The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team competed in their first road game of the 2021-2022 season against the Rams of Suffolk University on Wednesday night.

RAPID RECAP:
  • A shot from the 3-point line coming from the hands of first-year Marissa Holt (Alfred, Me.) put the Chargers on the board after trailing by seven early in the first quarter. Then, Juniors Lia Raynowska (Brentwood, N.H.)  and Emily Parent (Oakland, Me.) chimed in with three-pointers of their own to set the score 14-9 in favor of the Rams. The remaining four points of the quarter for the Chargers resulted from two made lay-ups, one coming from Holt and another from first-year Gabby Lucertini (Branford, Conn.).
  • A defensive steal from junior Sydney Stevens (Laconia, N.H.) came early in the second quarter with hopes of scoring. However, the next Charger bucket didn't fall until the sixth minute when Holt went up for a jump shot and came down victorious to put the score at 29-15. A solid defensive rebound from Stevens and a quick pass to Holt, who found the first-year Megan Molettierri (Pelham, N.H.) open on the three-point line, placed the Chargers at 18. Junior Ameesah Cotten (Newburgh, N.Y.) put the ball back up after a missed opportunity by Lucertini to score the following two Charger points. With less than two minutes to go, Holt drew a foul and made one of the two free throws to cut the Rams lead down to 19.
  • The lowest-scoring quarter for the Chargers came after halftime as the women put up six total points, with three of them coming from Holt. Cotten and Stevens were responsible for the remaining three points of the quarter. The final quarter of the game was much noisier as the team collectively scored eleven. Despite their great efforts, the Chargers dropped their first road game 71-38.

NOTES & NOTABLES:
  • The high scorer of tonight's game was first-year Marissa Holt, with a total of 11 points.
  • Cotten collected eight total rebounds on the night, with five of them coming from the defensive side.
  • Molettierri recorded the first steal of her college career along with her third defensive block.
