Strong Second Half Pushes Mammoths Past Chargers 89-52

AMHERST, Mass. – The Chargers men's basketball team cut a Mammoths lead to eight points with just under15 minutes left in the ballgame before a towering 23-0 run gave Amherst College the victory over Colby-Sawyer by a 89-52 final. 

Rapid Recap: 
  • The Chargers kept the deficit within ten points for the most part in the first half trailing 46-33 heading into the break. Junior Omar Boone (Colorado City, TX) tallied all of his eight points for Colby-Sawyer to lead the charge on offense. 
  • The visitors used an 8-2 run to cut the lead to 52-44 with 14:51 left on the clock. 
  • Amherst College countered in a massive way going on a 23-0 run over an eight minute span. 
Notes & Notables: 
  • Freshman Kevin Cummings (Portsmouth, N.H.) led the Chargers with 12 points (4-6 FG, 4-6 3-PT) while also grabbing a pair of rebounds. 
  • Junior Zack Caraballo (Salem, N.H.) was the only other visitor in double-figures scoring 11 points (4-8 FG, 3-6 3-PT) to go along with six assists and three rebounds. 
  • Colby-Sawyer continues to use the three-point line as a staple of the offense, hitting another eight threes tonight in the loss.
  • Grant Robinson led the Mammoths with 17 points, six rebounds, three steals and three assists.

The men's basketball team is back at home in New London, N.H. on Saturday when the Chargers take on UMass Boston at 7 PM.
