The Basics:Â
Score: Colby-Sawyer 0, U-Maine Farmington 2
Records: Colby-Sawyer (10-3) | U-Maine Farmington (5-5)
Â
Recap:Â
- In the first quarter, the Chargers tried to capitalize on a corner taken by junior Bella Silva (Danvers, Mass.), in which sophomore Aleah Murph (Portland, Maine) made great attempts to score but was blocked by the Beaver defense, to record the first shot of the competition.Â
- From there, it was a scoreless back and forth between both teams until Senior Alex Bessey from the Beavers scored the first goal of the game to give U-Maine a 1-0 advantage four minutes into the second quarter.Â
- After a Maine Farmington foul, Colby-Sawyer sought another opportunity when they were awarded their third penalty corner of the game taken by Silva yet again with less than 5 minutes to go in the first half. Junior Aoife Daly (Harwich, Mass.) attempted to tie the game to put the pressure on the Beavers until any opportunity of a comeback was taken away by a save from first year Alicia Bridges, the U-Maine goalie. With the game at 1-0 and an unsuccessful penalty corner taken by Silva, the Chargers committed two fouls before heading into the second half.Â
- At the start of the third quarter, two more fouls on the Chargers gave the Beavers the possession when junior midfielder Mya Daniels from U-Maine took an assist coming from senior midfielder Gracie Foss to put the second Farmington goal on the board at minute 43:18 to extend the lead to 2-0.Â
- Daly and Silva made attempts to score in the fourth quarter, however the Chargers were unable to avoid their first shutout of the season, dropping the match 0-2.Â
