NEW LONDON, N.H. – A Norwich goal in the third minute proved to be the eventual game-winner as the Cadets downed the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer 1-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Sunday afternoon.
Norwich's (8-2-0, 6-1-0 GNAC) Joseph Thongsythavong, the GNAC's second-leading goal scorer, slipped in behind the Chargers defense in the early minutes and snuck in the lone goal of the afternoon at 2:41.
The Chargers defense shut down the conference's second-ranked offense from there, as
Lucas Boetsch and company faced 20 shots, stopping 10 on frame, frustrating the Cadets offense for 87 minutes.
The Chargers pushed into their offensive half and put nine shots together on the afternoon, three on net.
"Our players played great today," said head coach
Bob Reasso. "Especially since we played yesterday and our opponent didn't. Norwich is an excellent, well-coached team. We had a tactical game planned which worked all game. We made a mistake in the firsts three minutes of the game when we let them in behind us to score the game-winner. I am very proud of our guys."
The Chargers (2-8-0, 2-6-0 GNAC) return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at Emmanuel College in Boston for a 7 p.m. match-up against the Saints.
