Colby-Sawyer Athletics Cancels Spring Seasons

GNAC Will Not Sponsor 2020 Spring Seasons & Championships

NEW LONDON, N.H. - March 13, 2020 - Given the current state of COVID-19 in New Hampshire and across the country, effective Saturday, March 14, Colby-Sawyer College will cancel all spring sports and non-traditional sport activities for the remainder of the academic school year. The decision to cancel varsity athletics was made, in part, as a result of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference's (GNAC) decision to halt all conference contests for the remainder of the spring semester.

The GNAC has announced it will not sponsor 2020 spring seasons and championships. For more information from the GNAC, please click HERE

Message from President Stuebner - Full statement >>>>> HERE
"The situation surrounding COVID-19 remains incredibly fluid and changes day by day. In the interest of negating the potential spread of COVID-19 to our students, faculty, staff and surrounding community, I, along with the college's senior leadership and emergency response teams, have decided to extend spring break through March 20. In addition, beginning March 23, all courses will be taught online for a period of two weeks. During this time, residence halls and campus housing will remain closed, and students are asked not to return to collect their belongings."

Statement from the Athletic Directors
"While this decision was extremely difficult to make, the health and well-being of our student-athletes and their families, as well as faculty, staff and the greater campus community, is the college's top priority.

Colby-Sawyer understands the sadness this will have on our student-athletes, coaches, families, and all of our staff. Know that this has been a very difficult decision and one not taken lightly and we understand how disappointed many of you will be. We are especially saddened for our student-athletes, particularly for our seniors.

Please understand that we truly believe that taking these steps is necessary in fulfilling our obligation of best ensuring the safety of the greater campus community."

Thank you for your patience as we continue to work through this difficult and unprecedented time, and please feel free to contact Athletic Director Bill Foti at 603-526-3613 or wfoti@colby-sawyer.edu with any questions.
