NASHUA, N.H. - February 12, 2020 - The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team suffered a 91-87 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) loss at Rivier on Wednesday evening.
Rivier improves to 4-17 overall and 1-7 in the conference. Colby-Sawyer falls to 10-12 overall and 4-4 in the GNAC. The Chargers will look to rebound at home on Saturday against Suffolk at 3 p.m.
Colby-Sawyer was led by senior
Dana Bean. He scored 25 points on 10-of-13 shooting, grabbed 13 rebounds and dished seven assists. Bean moved into sole possession of fifth place on the all-time scoring list with 1,628 career points.
Terrence Harvey Jr. scored 14 points, while
Jake Lorman contributed 12 points.
Kyle Landrigan made all eight of his free throw attempts and finished with 10 points.
Rivier's Issaiah Chappell led five players in double figures with 27 points. Pharaoh Davis was 7-of-9 from the floor for 16 points to go with seven assists.
The visitors took a 23-11 lead midway through the first half. Colby-Sawyer then led by 36-25 after a Coffey trey with 3:23 left in the frame. Rivier then hit threes on three of the next four trips down the floor to close the gap to four points. Landrigan finished the half with a pair of free throws to send Colby-Sawyer into the break on top 40-34.
The Raiders used the three-ball in the second half and made 10-of-14 attempts (71.4%) and shot 64.5% from the floor to storm back for the victory. Colby-Sawyer held the lead until a Chace Eason-Jones layup put Rivier in front 48-47, five minutes into the second. The Chargers responded with a run of their own to go back on top 58-51 after a pair of Landrigan free throws. Three minutes later, a Patrick Meyers trey knotted the game for Rivier at 60-60. Jake Carrier stepped to the line and converted a pair of free throws to give the Chargers an 81-77 lead. Rivier then went on a 10-0 run to take an 87-81 lead with 1:08 left to play. The Raiders were able to make a few free throws down the stretch to secure the 91-87 victory.
Colby-Sawyer won the battle of the boards 41-24, but Rivier shot 50% (14-28) from beyond the arc. Nine of the threes came from the bench.
