NEW LONDON, N.H. – February 15, 2020 – The Colby-Sawyer men's basketball team fell to Suffolk, 86-77, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Saturday afternoon.
Prior to the game, Colby-Sawyer honored seniors
Dana Bean (Franklin, N.H.) and
Patrick Coffey (Westford, Mass.).
Suffolk improves to 13-10 overall and 5-4 in conference play. The Rams will host Saint Joseph's (ME) on Tuesday at 8 p.m. Colby-Sawyer falls to 10-13 overall and 4-5 in the GNAC. The Chargers will conclude the conference regular season slate with a pair of road games next week.
The Rams received 19 points from senior Thomas Duffy (Fairfield, Conn.), senior Jonathan Eng (Wayland, Mass.) and junior Nate Hale (Nashua, N.H.). Duffy also grabbed a game best 10 rebounds.
Freshman
Jake Lorman (Rutland, Vt.) poured in a game-high 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Coffey scored 20 points to go with seven rebounds and five assists. He moved into seventh on the all-time scoring list with 1,554 points. Bean added 17 points and nine rebounds.
The visitors got out to a 15-8 lead in the first eight minutes of the contest. A
Dana Bean jumper at the 7:31 mark put Colby-Sawyer on top 20-19, but Suffolk used an 8-0 run to go back in front 27-20 with five minutes to play. The Rams increased their lead to 13 with under a minute to play on a Max Bonney-Liles (Hudson, N.H.) trey to take a 41-28 lead into the break. Duffy led all scorers with 15 points in the half. Coffey, Bean and Lorman each had eight points for the Chargers.
The Rams took their largest lead of the game, 57-35, five minutes into the second. Colby-Sawyer was able to close the gap to 13 points when a
Dana Bean layup made the score 65-52 with 8:43 on the clock. A 7-0 spurt by Suffolk, in the next two minutes, gave the Rams a comfortable lead with 7:11 to play. The Chargers eventually cut the deficit to seven, but there was only a minute remaining and Suffolk made free throws down the stretch to secure the 86-77 victory.
Suffolk outrebounded the Chargers 39-32 and made 10 three-pointers to Colby-Sawyer's four.
