Name: Abbie Castriotta
Hometown: Barre, MA
Sport: Cross Country
Major: Environmental Studies and Studio Art

What are your plans after graduation?
I'd like to work for an organization that focuses on improving local food security and continue to make art. I will eventually get my master's degree.

What is one piece of advice you would give to your freshman self?
take advantage of all the local trails!

What is your favorite meal in the cafeteria?
Strawberry, basil, goat cheese pizza.

Which CSC faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
Leon Malan. I entered college undecided and when I took his Exploring Nature class my freshman year, i knew I wanted to major in ENV studies. He is my advisor and has helped make it possible to double major. He is passionate about what he does and his enthusiasm is contagious.

What one class would you retake just for fun and why?
I would love to retake my FYS class with Ann Page Stecker again. I really enjoyed the writing and discussions we were able to do in that class. it would be intereting to see how my views have changed.

What is the most unique thing about your hometown?
It the exact geographical center of Massachusetts.

What is something that people may not know about you but should?
I don't like to use strava or track my runs. I like to run for the sake of running and have fun with it. I only recently began to truly love running and I think my lack of concern for milage and times has made me a better runner. I feel like I have a sustainable relationship with the sport.

What did you like most about competing at CSC and being a NCAA Division III student-athlete?
My cross-country teammates, current and past, are like family. They are the kindest and most supportive teammates. I can always count on a run with them to make any day better.

List three things that appear on your post-CSC bucket list.
1.     learn how to make lots of interesting food
2.     grow my own food
3.     travel and hike

What was your most memorable athletic moment at CSC?
When both the women's and men's team won the GNAC championship last year. We were the underdogs, but everyone put their all into the race and we pulled it off. We were all so proud of each other.
