BELMONT, Mass. - September 7, 2019 - The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team began Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday with an 8-1 win at Suffolk.
The Chargers improve to 1-2 and will step out of conference play on Wednesday for a home match against Plymouth State. Suffolk drops to 0-2.
Colby-Sawyer swept doubles action with an 8-2 victory at No. 1 by
Yashu Yang and
Alexa Conlin and an 8-6 triumph at No. 2 by
Amira Eid and
Juliet Henderson. The team also won at No. 3 by default.
Yang dropped just one game en route to a 6-0, 6-1 win at the top singles flight.
At No. 2, Conlin battled in the first set to a tie break win and then carried the momentum to a 6-1 score in the second to take the match.
Amira Eid picked up her first win of the season at the third flight with a convincing 6-0, 6-3 decision.
In the fourth slot,
Juliet Henderson won by the same scores as Eid to earn her first victory.
The Chargers won the sixth flight by default to account for the eight points.
