NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 4, 2019 – The Colby-Sawyer College men's soccer team was defeated by intrastate rival New England College, 4-1, in non-conference action Wednesday evening.
NEC improves to 1-2 and will play its home opener on Saturday at 5 p.m. against Nichols. Colby-Sawyer dips to 0-2-1 and will host Wentworth on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The visitors scored three times in the first half with two goals coming from senior Kyle Clements (Weare, N.H.). Sophomore Jacob Carney (Tyngsborough, Mass.) also scored for the Pilgrims.
Early in the second half, NEC went in front 4-0 after benefiting from an own goal.
Colby-Sawyer got on the board in the 74th minute when first-year
Dalton Debold (Reno, Nev.) notched his first collegiate goal off an assist from sophomore
Jonathan Martinez (Stony Point, N.Y.).
NEC goalie Robbie Ferguson (Hopkinton, N.H.) earned the win and made three stops. Colby-Sawyer keeper
Lucas Boetsch (Rockport, Maine) had 10 saves in the loss.
The Pilgrims outshot Colby-Sawyer 24-12, while the Chargers held an 8-6 edge in corner kicks.
