Men's Soccer Ties Plymouth State, 1-1

NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 25, 2019 – The Colby-Sawyer College and Plymouth State University men's soccer teams played to a 1-1 draw at Kelsey Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Colby-Sawyer goes to 2-3-3 and will resume Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday at the University of Saint Joseph. Plymouth State goes to 1-3-1 and will resume Little East Conference (LEC) play on Saturday at UMass Dartmouth.

The Chargers got on the board first with a nifty play in the 21st minute. After Plymouth State was whistled for a foul, sophomore Mason Galbato (North Easton, Mass.) sent a free kick towards the box that was flicked by sophomore Jonathan Martinez (Stony Point, N.Y.) and then headed into the back of the net by junior Ethan Sweet (Cornish, N.H.).

Plymouth State found the equalizer in the 59th minute when senior Joni Hongisto (Kaarina, Finland) stuck with the play after his initial shot was saved by Colby-Sawyer keeper Jarod Parkins (North Kingstown, R.I.). He followed the rebound past the keeper and knocked in his first goal of the season.

Colby-Sawyer had a chance to go in front with two minutes to play, but could not convert a penalty kick.

Parkins kept the Chargers in the contest throughout and finished with seven saves. Junior Linus Lindeberg (Stockholm, Sweden) was also up to the task and made four saves.

The Panthers outshot Colby-Sawyer 23-16 and had a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.
