Aoife Daly Scores Overtime Winner Against Lasell

NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 21, 2019 – Colby-Sawyer first-year Aoife Daly (Harwich, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal with one minute left in the first overtime period to lift the Chargers to a 3-2 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win over Lasell. The goal was her first collegiate tally.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 3-4 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Chargers host intrastate rival New England College on Wednesday. Lasell drops to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in the GNAC. The Lasers travel to WPI on Tuesday.

In overtime, each team had seven players on the field, creating a lot of space and opportunity. After an early scoring chance by Lasell, which was thwarted by the Colby-Sawyer goalie, Daly converted her chance into the game-winner with 1:00 showing on the clock.

Junior Sarah Morin (Pelham, N.H.) put Colby-Sawyer on top 1-0 with her second goal of the season with less than four minutes to play in the opening quarter. First-year Bella Silva (Danvers, Mass.) set up the play to collect her team leading third assist.

Lasell knotted the score at 1-1, five minutes into the second quarter, when junior Rebecca Duke (Ijamsville, Md.) redirected Sam Taylor's (Hanover, Mass.) shot into the back of the cage.

Taylor then put Lasell in front 2-1, early in the third quarter, with a nifty reverse shot that got through the Colby-Sawyer defense.

With 11:30 left to play in regulation, senior Alie Jones (Cape Neddick, Maine) tied the game with her team leading fourth goal of the season.

Colby-Sawyer goalie Abby Ladd (Colchester, Vt.) had four saves in the win, while Lasell goalie Sydney Pignone (Ipswich, Mass.) finished with nine saves.

The Chargers held a 10-5 edge in penalty corners and a 16-8 advantage in shots.
