NASHUA, N.H. – September 14, 2019 - The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team scored three times in six minutes in the fourth quarter to erase a 1-0 deficit and defeat Rivier, 3-1, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener for both teams.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the GNAC. The team will begin a three-game homestand on Tuesday against Keene State. Rivier drops to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
The home team took an early lead, less than two minutes into the game, when junior Nicole Mansfield (Acton, Mass.) found the back of the cage.
After the second and third quarters went scoreless, Colby-Sawyer was finally able to break through and erupt for three goals in the fourth frame.
In the 52nd minute, first-year
Bella Silva (Danvers, Mass.) converted on a pass from junior
Bella Robinson (Saco, Maine) to notch her first collegiate goal and tie the game at 1-1. Four minutes later, junior
Sarah Morin (Pelham, N.H.) gave the Chargers a 2-1 lead off a pass from Silva.
The Chargers put an insurance goal on the board with less than two minutes to play off a penalty corner. Junior
Julia Lanctot (Sandown, N.H.) inserted the ball to
Alie Jones who deposited her third goal of the season and send Colby-Sawyer home a 3-1 winner.

Abby Ladd (Colchester, Vt.) recorded two saves on three shots faced to earn the win for Colby-Sawyer. Rivier sophomore goalkeeper Katie Olsen (Saugus, Mass.) made eight saves in the loss.
Colby-Sawyer outshot Rivier 20-3 and had an 11-2 advantage in penalty corners.
