Field Hockey Falls to Keene State, 3-0

NEW LONDON, N.H. – September 17, 2019 – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team fell to in-state foe Keene State, 3-0, on Tuesday afternoon at the Sally Shaw Veitch Turf Field.

Keene State improves to 3-3. The Owls travel to Trinity on Thursday for a 6 p.m. contest with the Bantams. Colby-Sawyer falls to 2-4. The Chargers resume Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday at home against Lasell at noon.

The visitors scored less than five minutes into the game off a set piece from a penalty corner. Senior Ally McCall (Watertown, Mass.) ripped a shot from just inside the circle that was deflected in by Kayla Klein (West Brookfield, Mass.) to put the Owls up 1-0.

McCall and junior Nina Bruno (Agawam, Mass.) connected five minutes later to double Keene State's lead. McCall sent a long ball from outside of the circle to the front of the cage where Bruno redirected it past the Colby-Sawyer goalie.

Bruno added her fourth goal of the season, late in the second quarter, off an assist from Klein to account for the 3-0 score.

The Chargers had a flurry in front of the cage in the third quarter, but Owls goalie Rachel Loseby (Hartford, Vt.) turned away each shot to preserve the shutout.

Loseby finished with five saves in the win. Colby-Sawyer goalie Julia Carr (York, Maine) made four saves and allowed three goals in the first 30 minutes. Junior Abby Ladd (Colchester, Vt.) made three saves in the final two quarters.

Each team finished the contest with eight penalty corners.
