NASHUA, N.H. - April 7, 2019 - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team split a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) games with Rivier on Sunday afternoon. Colby-Sawyer won game one 8-2, while Rivier took game two by a 4-2 score.
The Chargers are now 4-16 overall and 2-4 in the GNAC. Colby-Sawyer hosts Keene State on Tuesday. Rivier goes to 6-20 overall and 1-7 in the conference.
GAME ONE - COLBY-SAWYER 8, RIVIER 2
Colby-Sawyer pitcher
Ryan Glendye tossed a complete game one-hitter to earn the victory for the Chargers. He allowed two unearned runs and struck out three Raiders.
The Chargers scored twice in the second inning off an
AJ Cavossa groundout and a
Kristian Viljanen RBI single.
Colby-Sawyer added four runs in the top of the third on RBI from
Austin Butler,
Danny McCrystal,
Noah Yeingst and Cavossa.
The Raiders scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to 6-2.
Butler and Cavossa each added an RBI in the sixth and seventh, respectively, and Glendye did the rest as Colby-Sawyer went on for the 8-2 victory.
Austin Butler went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Cavossa finished with a game-high 3 RBI.
GAME TWO - RIVIER 4, COLBY-SAWYER 2
Rivier raced out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and doubled its lead to 4-0 with a pair of runs in the third.
Colby-Sawyer got on the board in the top of the fifth with a bases loaded walk by
Brendan Barrett that scored
Jesse Galanti.
Barrett plated another run in the top of the seventh with a sac fly to score
Kristian Viljanen, but the rally was halted as Rivier hung on for the 4-2 win.
Tim Unczur pitched a complete game and allowed four earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts in the loss.
Austin Butler recorded two of the Chargers' three hits in the game.
