NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. - April 13, 2019 - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team lost both ends of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader at the New England Baseball Complex.
Anna Maria improves to 11-20 overall and 3-9 in the conference. Colby-Sawyer dips to 4-18 overall and 2-6 in the GNAC. The Chargers will look to rebound on Sunday with a home doubleheader against Norwich with a scheduled first pitch for 11 a.m.
GAME ONE - Anna Maria 5, Colby-Sawyer 0
The AMCATS got off to a hot start with three runs in the bottom of the first. Adam Twitchell knocked in a run, while Nick Genatossio plated a pair with a single to to right.
Anna Maria added single runs in the second and the fifth to account for the 5-0 victory.
AMCATS pitcher Jack Marzec tossed a complete game two-hitter with 11 strikeouts to earn the victory.
Charlie Danaher had both of Colby-Sawyer's hits.
Ryan Glendye suffered the loss with five earned runs in in five innings.
Kyle McShera threw a scoreless inning of relief.
GAME TWO - Anna Maria 5, Colby-Sawyer 1
Charlie Danaher continued to a have a nice day at the plate with an RBI single to center that scored
Austin Butler to put Colby-Sawyer on top 1-0 in the first.
After being held scoreless for the first three innings, Anna Maria broke through for five runs in the fourth on four RBI singles and a bases loaded walk.
Butler finished with a pair of hits for the Chargers, while Jake Crevier and Greg Gehring posted two hits apiece for Anna Maria.
Tim Unczur took the loss for Colby-Sawyer after giving up five runs in four innings of work.
Derek Griffin and
Jack Cahill each threw a scoreless inning of relief.
Anna Maria's Twitchell earned the win. He allowed one run on four hits in five innings. Liam Cunningham gave up one hit in two innings out of the bullpen.
