NORTHFIELD, Vt. – October 9, 2019 - The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 match at Norwich University Wednesday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.
Norwich improves to 9-2-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the GNAC. Colby-Sawyer falls to 2-7-3 overall and 2-3 in conference play. The Chargers host Rivier on senior day this Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Cadets scored a pair of goals in a 1:34 span midway through the first half. Amerle Nemeye (Burlington, Vt.) and Matteo Iagrossi (Schenectady, N.Y.) each scored off assists from first-year forward Joseph Thongsythavong (Salem, Mass.).
Nemeye opened the scoring in the 20th minute, redirecting a pass from the right side from Thongsythavong off the bottom of the crossbar and into the back of the net for his sixth goal of the season.
Just over a minute later Iagrossi scored with a well-struck ball into the top left corner of the net off assists from Thongsythavong and Josue Lopez (Chula Vista, Calif.).
Thongsythavong capped the scoring in the 54th minute with a deft redirect touch into the bottom right corner of the net off a perfect through ball pass from Hunter Lortie (Manchester, N.H).
Norwich freshman goalkeeper Robert Wagenseller (Poway, Calif.) stopped all four shots he faced to pick up his second career shutout.
Sophomore
Lucas Boetsch (Rockport, Maine) kept the Chargers in the contest with seven saves.
