NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 12, 2019 – The Colby-Sawyer College men's soccer team earned a 3-0 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over Rivier on senior day Saturday afternoon at Kelsey Field.
Prior to the match, Colby-Sawyer honored its three seniors
Jarod Parkins (North Kingstown, R.I.),
Danilo Salgado (Essex Junction, Vt.) and
Kieran Thapalia (Albany, N.Y.).
Colby-Sawyer improves to 3-7-3 overall and 3-3 in the GNAC. The Chargers travel to Anna Maria on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. match, which was originally scheduled for Wednesday evening. Rivier drops to 1-13-1 overall and 0-7 in conference play. The Raiders continue a stretch of six-straight road games next Saturday with a 4:30 p.m. GNAC tilt at Regis.
The Chargers broke the scoreless tie in the 41st minute when sophomore
Tim Driscoll (Framingham, Mass.) sent a free kick towards the front of the net that was flicked by sophomore
Couper Gunn (Easthampton, Mass.) to junior
Bryce Capunitan (Lisbon, Conn.) who converted his first collegiate goal.
In the 78th minute, Colby-Sawyer doubled its lead when sophomore
Mason Galbato (North Easton, Mass.) scored on a free kick from 22 yards out.
The Chargers added an insurance goal in the 82nd minute off the foot of
Ahamad Raji (Lagos, Nigeria). Junior
Dallas Robinson (Enfield, Conn.) found Raji in the middle of the offensive zone and he sent the ball from 28 yards out into the upper right corner for the 3-0 lead.
Jarod Parkins earned his first clean sheet of the season with six saves. Rivier goalie Collin Deyarmin (Raymond, N.H.) had three saves in the loss.
First-year Kelvin Cortez (Meriden, Conn.) led the Raiders with three shots on target.
Colby-Sawyer held slight advantages in shots (15-13) and corner kicks (4-2).
