NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 5, 2019 – The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team swept Albertus Magnus, 9-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Saturday afternoon.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 3-7 overall and 3-3 in the GNAC. The Chargers host Johnson & Wales next Saturday for a regular season finale. Albertus Magnus drops to 2-8 overall and 0-6 in conference play. The Falcons host Berkeley-NY tomorrow at 2 p.m.
Yashu Yang (Kunming City, China) and
Alexa Conlin (Westborough, Mass.) did not drop a game en route to their 8-0 No. 1 doubles victory over Jessica Coughlin (Durham, Conn.) and Cassie Couture (Waterbury, Conn.).
The Falcons' second doubles team of Mariah Mandulak (Shelton, Conn.) and Nallely Magana (East Haven, Conn.) pushed Colby-Sawyer's No. 2 tandem of
Amira Eid (Pelham, N.H.) and
Juliet Henderson (Swanzey, N.H.), but the Chargers duo came out on top 8-5.
Colby-Sawyer earned the doubles sweep behind strong play from the No. 3 team of
Margaret Fox (New Orleans, La.) and
Hannah Nasser (Middletown, R.I.). Fox and Nasser combined for an 8-1 triumph.
The Chargers then swept all six singles matches in straight sets. Yang, Fox and Nasser did not drop a game on their way to victories at the top, fifth and sixth flights, respectively.
