NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 12, 2019 – The Colby-Sawyer women's tennis team fell to Johnson & Wales, 7-2, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) regular season finale Saturday afternoon.
Johnson & Wales improves to 11-1 and will be the top seed in the GNAC Tournament after finishing the season at 7-0. Colby-Sawyer drops to 3-8 overall and 3-4 in the conference.
The Wildcats took a 2-1 lead by winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Emily Hill (Wilmington, Mass.) and Kourtney Moore (Roswell, Ga.) teamed for an 8-2 win over
Amira Eid (Pelham, N.H.) and
Juliet Henderson (Swanzey, N.H.) at the second spot, while Kat Ledesma (Coral Springs, Fla.) and Sydney Constantinidi (North Branford, Conn.) combined for an 8-0 win at third doubles over
Margaret Fox (New Orleans, La.) and
Hannah Nasser (Middletown, R.I.).
The Chargers got a doubles point from
Yashu Yang (Kunming City, China) and
Alexa Conlin (Westborough, Mass.) at the top doubles spot with an 8-1 victory over Claire Parry (Westport, Conn.) and Drew Bobey (Charlestown, S.C.).
Yang and Conlin finish the regular season with perfect 7-0 record against GNAC opponents.
JWU then won five out of the six singles matches to secure the 7-2 victory.
Yashu Yang gave Colby-Sawyer a point by winning the top singles flight against Parry 6-1, 6-0. Yang finishes the regular season with an undefeated GNAC record of 7-0.
JWU won at the next five flights in straight sets.
