Men's Soccer Edged by Johnson & Wales, 1-0

NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 5, 2019 – The Colby-Sawyer College men's soccer team was edge by Johnson & Wales, 1-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest Saturday afternoon.

Johnson & Wales improves to 9-2 overall and remains perfect in the GNAC at 4-0. The Wildcats travel to Emmanuel on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Colby-Sawyer drops to 2-6-3 overall and 2-2 in conference action. The Chargers travel to Norwich on Wednesday to also play under the lights at 7 p.m.

The lone goal of the contest came in the 25th minute when senior Riley Spotton (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) sent a thru ball to sophomore JP Rioux (Stony Point, N.Y.) who deposited his team leading seventh goal into the back of the net.

Colby-Sawyer had a 12-11 edge in shots, but JWU had a 5-1 advantage in shots on target. The Wildcats took 10 corners, while Colby-Sawyer finished with six.  

Wildcats goalie Austin Scoggins (Cutchogue, N.Y.) earned the clean sheet with one save. Colby-Sawyer senior goalie Jarod Parkins (North Kingstown, R.I.) took the loss after allowing one goal in 45 minutes of work. He made two saves, while Lucas Boetsch (Rockport, Maine) also had a pair of saves in the final 45 minutes.
