NEW LONDON, N.H. – October 16, 2019 – The Colby-Sawyer field hockey team fell to Thomas, 2-1 in overtime, in non-conference action at the Sally Shaw Veitch Turf Field on Wednesday afternoon.  

Thomas improves to 8-6 and will play at Elms on Saturday at 11 a.m. Colby-Sawyer falls to 6-6 and will resume Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Regis on Saturday at 11 a.m.

The Terriers controlled the action in overtime and took five shots. Five minutes into the extra session, Britney Gregoire (Kennebunk, Maine) thought she had the game-winner as her shot sailed past the Colby-Sawyer goalie. First-year Bella Silva (Danvers, Mass.) stepped in with the defensive save to prolong the contest.

Less than a minute later, however, Thomas was able to end the game when senior Kelci Faulkingham (Belfast, Maine) sent a shot from just inside the circle that deflected off a Colby-Sawyer player and into the cage. Junior Allie Gregoire (Kennebunk, Maine) earned the assist.

After a scoreless first quarter, Thomas opened the scoring early in the second with an unassisted goal from Britney Gregoire.

The Chargers found an equalizer with less than two minutes remaining in the second frame. Junior Julia Lanctot (Sandown, N.H.) set up a scoring chance for junior Sarah Morin (Pelham, N.H.) who deposited her sixth goal of the season.

Thomas goalie MacKenzie Oberholzer (Hancock, Md.) made six saves to earn the victory. Junior Haley Thebarge (Smithfield, Maine) and Allie Gregoire each chipped in with a defensive save. Junior Abby Ladd (Colchester, Vt.) had seven saves for the Chargers.
