WATERVILLE, Maine - April 21, 2018 - The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team defeated Thomas, 9-0, to serve the Terriers their first North Atlantic Conference (NAC) East Division loss.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 4-10 overall and 3-0 in the NAC, while Thomas had its seven-match win streak snapped to dip to 10-4 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The Chargers will host Castleton on Sunday and MCLA on Monday to conclude the conference regular season. Thomas hosts Lyndon tomorrow.Â
Gustav Jigrup and
Nick Mathieu combined for an 8-4 win at the top doubles flight, while
Alex Wright and
Mike White also won by an 8-4 score at No. 3 doubles. The No. 2 duo of
Cam Lynch and
Matt Burke edged Ross Munn and Jared Waterhouse 8-6 to give Colby-Sawyer the 3-0 lead after doubles.Â
Jigrup earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Ryan Chasse in the No. 1 slot. Mathieu dropped just one game to cruise to a No. 2 victory and Wright downed Zachary Disch at No. 3 6-1, 6-1.Â
At the fourth flight, Burke edged Waterhouse 6-4, 6-4.Â
After dropping the first set 6-4 to Kaleb Payson,
Cam Lynch tied the match with a 7-5 second-set victory. Lynch then battled to a 14-12 tie-break win in the third to take the match.Â
White won his singles match by a 6-0, 6-4 score at the sixth flight over Christo Naranja.Â
