NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 22, 2018 – The Colby-Sawyer men's tennis team defeated Castleton, 9-0, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) East Division action on Sunday afternoon.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 5-10 overall and 4-0 in the NAC. The Chargers will wrap up conference action at home tomorrow against MCLA. Castleton drops to 7-5 overall and 2-3 in the NAC. The Spartans will host the NAC East Tournament on Saturday.
In doubles action, Colby-Sawyer's No. 3 senior tandem of
Andrew Peloquin (Greenville, R.I.) and
Ross Kenney (Hampton Falls, N.H.) cruised to an 8-0 victory over freshman Oskar Eriksson (Taby, Sweden) and sophomore Jared Wheeler (Coventry, R.I.). The No. 2 duo of sophomore
Matt Burke (Milford, Conn.) and junior
Alex Wright (St. Austell, Cornwall, England) earned an 8-2 win over senior Trevor Hanna (Whitehorse, Yukon) and senior Brody Wagner (Reading, Pa.). The Chargers made the 3-0 sweep with an 8-3 victory from their top team of senior
Gustav Jigrup (Gothenburg, Vastra Frolunda, Sweden) and freshman
Nick Mathieu (Topsham, Maine) who beat senior Quentin Barthe (Bordeaux, France) and senior Ryan Mulder (Ottawa, Ont.).
Colby-Sawyer then swept all six singles matches in straight sets for the 9-0 victory.
Jigrup defeated Barthe 6-2, 6-1 at the top flight, while Mathieu did not drop a game en route to a win over Wheeler at the second flight.
Wright won 6-1, 6-1 over Mulder at No. 3 and Burke earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Hanna at No. 4.
Peloquin also won by a 6-2, 6-2 score at No. 5 over Wagner, while Kenney defeated sophomore Nathan Hinson (Woodstock, Vt.) 6-0, 6-0.
