Baseball Drops Two at NEC

HENNIKER, N.H. - April 13, 2018 - The Colby-Sawyer baseball team fell to New England College in both ends of Friday's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) doubleheader. NEC won by scores of 8-5 and 9-0. 

The Chargers will have a quick turnaround as they will host Husson tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. for two games in hopes to beat the impending weather. 

GAME ONE - NEC 8, COLBY-SAWYER 5

The home team plated three runs in the first and four in the second to take a 7-0 lead. Christian Aybar had an RBI single in each frame.

Colby-Sawyer began to rally in the top of the third inning. Austin Butler knocked in Tim Donovan on a groundout then Charlie Danaher singled to center to score Brendan Thurber and Dougie Avellino. The scoring would continue when Drew Inglesi singled through the left side to bring around Connor Henry. Danaher then scored on an Andrew Pratt singled to right to pull the Chargers within two at 7-5. 

NEC got a run back in the bottom of the third to take a 8-5 lead, where the scoring would end. 

Nick Powers went the distance for NEC and was charged with one earned run. 

AJ Cavossa was saddled with the loss after two innings of work. He allowed just three earned runs. Andrew Carbone pitched the final four innings and allowed one run on five hits. 

Pratt, Inglesi and Joey Fenuccio finished with two hits apiece. 

GAME TWO - NEC 9, COLBY-SAWYER 0

NEC scored twice in the first inning and added four in the second. Xavier Nunez had the big hit in the second with a two-run homer to right field. 

The Pilgrims tacked on three more in the fourth to secure the victory. 

Shayne Audet earned the win after five innings of one-hit ball with eight strikeouts. 

Joey Fenuccio recorded the Chargers' lone hit. 

Joe Scurto took the loss after going 3.1 innings with nine runs allowed. Brendan Barrett surrendered just two hits in 1.2 innings of relief, while Eliot Mousseau pitched the final inning and struck out two.
