NEW LONDON, N.H. – January 6, 2018 – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team defeated Thomas College, 71-40, in Saturday's North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game at the David L. Coffin Field House.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 7-3 overall and 4-1 in the NAC. The Chargers step out of conference action on Tuesday to host Bates at 5:30 p.m. Thomas falls to 6-7 overall and 3-3 in conference play. The Terriers will host UMaine-Farmington next Saturday at 1 p.m.
Sophomore
Lexie Hamilton (Sunapee, N.H.) led the Chargers with 14 points, while sophomore
Tianna Sugars (Oxford, Maine) recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and 18 rebounds. On the heels of yesterday's triple-double, senior
Emmani Robinson (Newburgh, N.Y.) continued her great play with a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman
Joslin Wainwright (Plainfield, N.H.) added 12 points and seven points. Senior
Amanda Calvo (South Deerfield, Mass.) chipped in seven points and seven steals.
Thomas was led by sophomore Malorie Weaver (Palermo, Maine). She was 8-of-11 from the floor to finish with 16 points. Sophomore Karli Stubbs (Auburn, Maine) added six points and a team best eight rebounds.
Despite shooting 28.6% in the first quarter, Colby-Sawyer led 17-10 after ten minutes. The Chargers extended their lead in the second by holding Thomas to two made field goals. Colby-Sawyer also shot the ball better in the second (42.9%) to take a 33-15 lead into the locker room.
The home team was extremely efficient in the third frame and came away with 25 points on 62.5% shooting. The Chargers led 58-27 after three and went on for the 71-40 victory after each team posted 13 points in the fourth quarter.
Colby-Sawyer turned 23 Thomas turnovers into 28 points and held a 50-37 edge in rebounding.
