CASTINE, Maine - September 16, 2017 - The Colby-Sawyer men's soccer team scored four unanswered goals to earn a 4-1 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) road win at Maine Maritime on Saturday evening.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in the NAC. The Chargers will host intrastate rival New England College on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Maine Maritime falls to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the NAC. The Mariners will host Thomas on Tuesday.
The Mariners went in front early in the first half on a goal from Ike Doiron at the 9:09 mark. The game would remain 1-0 in favor of the home team until halftime. Each side took seven shots in the opening 45 minutes.
Colby-Sawyer would find its offensive rhythm in the second half and score four unanswered goals for the 4-1 win.
Senior
Eddie Garcia knotted the score at 1-1 in the 52nd minute with his first goal of the season off an assist from senior
Zach Elmore. Less than two minutes later, Garcia was at it again with the game-winner.
Denali Sexton fed a pass through the defenders and Garcia finished inside the post past the keeper.
Colby-Sawyer added an insurance goal in the 72nd minute when senior
Denali Sexton converted a penalty kick for the second straight game. The Chargers tacked on one more in the 76th minute as Sexton set up senior teammate
Jake Sykes for his first score of the season.
Senior
Sean Babinski worked the first 41 minutes of the game and made three saves before exiting. Junior
Shane Sacks played the final 49 minutes to earn the win with one save. Mariners goalie Joshua Reeks had two stops in the loss.
The Chargers finished the game with a 17-13 advantage in shots and a slim 8-7 edge in corner kicks.
