Women's Lacrosse Falls to Castleton

NEW LONDON, N.H. – April 22, 2017 - The Colby-Sawyer women's lacrosse team fell to Castleton University, 19-4, in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest on a foggy Sally Shaw Veitch Turf Field.

Prior to the game, seniors Meghan Castellano (Wallingford, Conn.) and Paige Prokop (Woburn, Mass.) were honored for their four years of dedication to Colby-Sawyer and the women's lacrosse program. 

Castleton improves to 8-6 overall and 8-0 in the NAC. The Spartans will host Green Mountain at 4 p.m. on Monday. Colby-Sawyer drops to 9-5 overall and 6-2 in the NAC. The Chargers will travel to Henniker, N.H. on Monday match against intrastate rival New England College. 

The visitors opened the scoring less than a minute into the contest and did not look back. Castleton scored six straight goals in the first 13 minutes of the contest before Colby-Sawyer got on the board.

Junior Nicole Lavigne (Berlin, Vt.) recorded the Chargers' first tally at 15:30 with her team leading 49th goal. 

The Spartans answered Lavigne's goal with a 6-0 run before junior Carli Chiodo (Madbury, N.H.) notched Colby-Sawyer's second goal of the game, making the score 12-2 in Castleton's favor at halftime.

Castleton scored seven goals in the second half, while Colby-Sawyer received goals from Lavigne and sophomore Sierra Schuster (Hopkinton, N.H.) to make the final score 19-4 Castleton. 

Grace Johnson led Castleton with six goals and an assist. Nadine Downing and Tiffany Danyow each had hat tricks.

Lavigne led Colby-Sawyer with two goals to give her 50 on the season. She added five draw controls. Schuster registered two ground balls, two draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Meghan Castellano started in net for the Chargers and made three saves, while freshman Kailyn Lapham (Medway, Mass.) played the final 43 minutes and earned five saves.
